Join author Jim Hall as he discusses his latest local history book, The Last Lynching in Northern Virginia: Seeking Truth at Rattlesnake Mountain.
The book explores the events surrounding the death of Shedrick Thompson, who was found dead in northern Fauquier County in 1932. After his neighbors were horrifically assaulted, suspicion fell on Thompson, who fled to the hills to evade the law. Months later his body was found, and the county coroner quickly pronounced Thompson's death a suicide. Many residents, however, disputed the official report and instead claimed that Thompson was the victim of Northern Virginia's last lynching. Jim Hall explores the evidence in an attempt to find the truth.
