The Virginia Piedmont Heritage Area, in partnership with the Black History Committee of the Thomas Balch Library, will take a look back at our community 100 years ago. Our panel of historians will share stories on the many challenges and changes that locals faced in that momentous year - soldiers returning from the Great War, the local fight for women's suffrage, the global flu pandemic, prohibition, and more.
This program is free of charge and will be broadcast live on the VPHA Facebook page.
Panelists will include:
Lori Kimball, Executive Director of the Loudoun Heritage Farm Museum.
Alicia Cohen, member of the Black History Committee and curator of the The History of African American Voting Rights exhibit at the Thomas Balch Library.
James Taub, military historian and former educator for The United States World War One Centennial Commission.
Marilyn Thornton, independent historian and author of Letters from Edgar’s Trunk.
