Llangollen & A Newly Discovered Loudoun Civil War Diary

  • Llangollen farm Upperville, Va (map)

Catherine Simms Powell was an early resident of Llangollen, along with her husband Cuthbert. She hailed from Alexandria and lived at the historic estate in Loudoun County for nearly forty years. She was 81 years old when the Civil War began, and her previously unknown diary has recently surfaced, where she recorded the events she witnessed at an estate near Leesburg

Join Historian Alison Herring at the historic home of Llangollen, where we will explore the early history of the estate, the Powell family, enslaved people, and Catherine’s diary during the American Civil War

The program will take place in the Llangollen Horsehoe Barn, followed by a beer & wine reception.
