“Great Things are Expected From the Virginians” The Chilton House and Family

  • Chilton House Suites 97 Culpeper Street Warrenton, VA, 20186 United States (map)

Few families in the Heritage Area enjoy as rich a legacy as the Chiltons of Fauquier County. Arriving in Virginia in the 1660s, the Chiltons established themselves as a leading family in Fauquier through the mid 18th Century. As the American War For Independence broke out in the colonies, Captain John Chilton led Heritage Area men of the Third Virginia Continental Regiment through hard fighting of 1776 and 1777 until he was mortally wounded at the Battle of Brandywine. Descendants of Captain Chilton continued to his legacy in Fauquier, settling in what became known as the Chilton House in the late 1800s.

Join VPHA Director of Education Travis Shaw in an exploration of the Chilton family home, and discover this Virginia family’s incredible story.

This program will include refreshments and a beer & wine reception.
